Issue with syncing Comments of a Comment
Hi, I have a weird behaviour of Syncing Comments. According to the [Troubleshoot]( section for testing synchronisation, it should be possible to retrieve comments via: `curl -H "Accept: application/activity+json" # the id of a local comment` That works for Comments which are **direct** responses to a post, e.g. The response (shortcut url: can be successfully retrieved via: `curl -H "Accept: application/activity+json"` **But** The Answer Comment to that Comment: (Shortcut url: **can not be retrieved** via : `curl -H "Accept: application/activity+json"` This leads to the issue that these Comments are not synced to **my** instance Is it a known issue? Can I do anything to get Response Comments to Comments Synced to my instance? Thanks in advance Jonny

404 Fetch Error - Environment Variables
Hi, 1. I previously forked lemmy-ui, to help expand it (at version 0.15.3). 2. This week, I merged upstream changes from the official lemmy-ui (version 0.16.7). 3. Now I’m getting this error when visiting the live site: `404: FetchError: request to` > ^ That URL is derived from `const testHost = "";` in *env.ts* [confirmed by changing the string value] ** ****POSSIBLE CAUSE and QUESTION**** Perhaps this error can be solved by using the new Environment Variables. If so, where do we input those new Environment Variables? > [so far I’ve tried adding them in docker-compose.yml. Also tried adding them in a new .env file] ** ****MORE INFO**** These are the new Env Variables I'm referencing (from the new Lemmy-UI [ReadMe]( - LEMMY_UI_LEMMY_INTERNAL_HOST - LEMMY_UI_LEMMY_EXTERNAL_HOST - LEMMY_UI_LEMMY_WS_HOST They are consumed by *env.ts*. For example, at line 30: `externalHost = process.env.LEMMY_UI_LEMMY_EXTERNAL_HOST || testHost;` > ^ the Env_Var will replace the `testHost` default. ** Thank you for reading. I will attempt any ideas. [Here are my Docker logs for reference]( (starting at server reboot). Running: Lemmy 16.6

[RESOLVED] Our Beehaw instance is experiencing a problem that we can't identify
Over just 14 days our physical disk usage has increased from 52% to 59%. That's approximately 1.75 GB of disk space being gobbled up for unknown reasons. At that rate, we'd be out of physical server space in 2 -3 months. Of course, one solution would be to double our server disk size which would double our monthly operating cost. The 'pictrs' folder named '001' is 132MB and the one named '002' is 2.2GB. At first glance this doesn't look like it's an image problem. So, we are stumped and don't know what to do.

I finished the hungarian translation of Lemmy
Hello, I finished the hungarian translation on Lemmy Weblate page: []( One of Dev can put back the hungarian language in Lemmy? Thanks. I will correct the strings if something is not accurate on the frontend.

Where is Lemmy UI files on server?
Maybe it's a dumb question, but sorry, I'm not a dev, I just play and learn with Lemmy on my vps in my free time. Can I ask where can I find Lemmy ui files after Docker install?

Hosting lemmy with Caddy v2 and Docker
Hello, I want to host my own lemmy instance but instead of using Nginx as a reverse proxy I want to use Caddy as a reverse proxy since it is easier. Sadly I am still learning how to use it and lemmy is putting me in hard position. Does anybody know how can I do it? Thanks in advance! ::: spoiler spoiler Edit: I have around $1,30 in Monero (at least it was that much a week or two before) if any helps me I am going to give it to him. :::

How do I delete a picture?
After uploading a picture there is a popup that lets you delete the picture. But after that is gone I don't know how to do it.

Bad UX for replies
Sometimes when you hit reply, it doesn't save. Then you go on to do other things and everything you wrote is lost. Sometimes you have to hit reply 2,3 or even more times for it to actually do it. This is complete insanity and bad UX.

Is there a way to audit activity on small instances / to get notified of reports of local users?
I just noticed that my instance is on the block list for, which explains why I haven't been seeing any updated posts for about a month. As far as I know I haven't noticed any bad behavior in the couple default communities I created there, but there doesn't seem to be a way to check up on local user's activity elsewhere - I assume the block has to do with someone signing up and trolling, but I'm not sure how to stay in the loop so I can take action before getting blocked by other instances. Is there any way to get better visibility into this or get alerted when local users are creating reports / bans / problems for other instances?

Blocked users
I blocked a spam user but they still show up in my inbox. Update: a blocked user's direct message notification was not removed from my inbox. Comments were, so presumably this is a bug.

Is there a 100% reliable way of linking to a single comment? The GUI links behave in unexpected ways
Hi, I need to be able to open a single comment on top of the window, like a permalink (I'm creating a hypertext game on lemmy), but the two link methods available in the GUI doesn't behave like they should. * The first "link" button doesn't act like a permalink at all when there are nested comments above it, I don't know why (on Firefox 91.10.0es), but sometimes it just shows some nested comments above instead of the actual comment itself * The second "link" button just end on a 404 page. How is this one supposed to work ? So I was wondering if there is another way of displaying only a single comment by its id, but looking at the HTML dom it doesn't seem like comments have unique ids ? Hope someone can answer :) ----- **Edit** : I checked in another browser, still the same issue. Also this problem is happening with non-nested comments too, the first link to a comment is not reliable and shows random content on the page, but this seems to be happening only when the comments count begins to be high under a post (more than twenty or so? cannot say exactly)

[Solved] User name and community name clash caused federation issues
I am commenting with my []( account on Then from several weird behavior: - Searching on doesn't find anything. - Searching on @fediversefutures doesn't find anything (though search on does) - When opening @fediversefutures profile in the timeline, I do not see my []( comments. - But I do see comments from other accounts replying to the same post. - When I click such reply, the thread loads minus my own replies, and minus my top-level post, which isn't in the timeline for @fediversefutures either when viewing from Mastodon UI (using my []( account). **Update** Thanks to some great help of []( in [this toot]( I found out that my account was broken, because someone had later on created a community with the same name. There are open issues to handle such cases: - - Since the community was inactive LemmyDev deleted it, and my account works again

strange warnings in lemmy logs

By the way I use the Installation Guide for [Docker]( and already dropped the old db/pictrs data and re-created my instance with blank data folders. But the errors stay the same. Thanks in advance :)

Keyboard Shortcuts
Is there any hope of getting keyboard shortcuts? If nothing else ctrl+enter is strange to do without.

Why are there two of me?
’ve got one …/u/lxvi and another …/u/ One of them on my PC. One of them on my Phone. When I first switched over to I made the account once. I made it on my PC. When I signed into my account on my phone it created another instance. Same username. Same Password. Two Accounts. As far as I can tell there’s no way to abandon one for the other… If I’m on my PC it has to be on this account. If I’m on my phone it has to be the other. Same credentials.

Login worked from Safari at least a month ago. Not sure if the problem started with a change in Safari or a change in Lemmy.

How do I quote something, linking to the original source?
Quoting only shows a vertical arrow next to the text. How could I link to the original source of the quote?
