Can’t speak for adults, but I was nine at the time and it completely passed me by. Might just have been my particular age or where I lived, but Superman and those sorts of films were mot very popular, more something your Dad would watch on a Sunday afternoon - nothing like what the Marvel film franchise became around ten years later.
