This is an update to: List of American owned media pretending to be Canadian, infiltrating Canadian culture and politics.

What the fuck are you saying LaPresse and LeDevoir are American owned??? That’s not true at all!LaPresse is owned by the non-profit LaPresse Inc. It’s completely independant!
And Le Devoir is owned by Le Devoir Inc. A completely 100% Québécois company. They are also 100% independant. (And pro-independance 😉)
Pl
ease fix that image because it’s not factual at all.EDIT: I NEED GLASSES FFS!
I didn’t see there were two sides where one was for “Canadian owned”. My bad…
It’s okay, you’re not the first one. I was trying to prioritize information density, and unfortunately this will be an unwanted side effect.
I’ve made some changes in the meanwhile to lessen the chances of this confusion happening, but I don’t think it’ll be avoided entirely.
LoL thank you for making it more obvious for us dummies. 😅
additionally the next labour government needs to overturn harpers rules that led to the american companies buying up all the media.
Great list… but make it more obvious that there’s a Canadian list. With such a busy graphic some people, like myself, might initially mistake the graphic at one list instead of 2.
Sorry for posting here but I couldn’t comment on the .ca link.
Yes I can see your point, and you’re not the first one to mention this.
This is why I had placed the CBC Radio Canada at the top, with the hope that people would stop and think for a moment.
I’ll try to make it better, but I’m prioritizing information density and just to be more informative than the other one.
If it really bothers you that much, you can also take the content, and change it yourself, as the infographic is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0.
I get the majority of my news from CBC. Looks like that’s good 👍
Why is Winnipeg Free Press missing?
I wanted to avoid highlighting for profit media, because of the relative ease of being acquired (as many already have by Americans).
These non-profit media outlets will remain so long as they have an audience.
Fair enough, Winnipeg Free Press is a large Canadian media org, but they are indeed for profit and potentially biased that way.
Thanks for being understanding!
Yes, it’s the fear of being acquired, and to a lesser extent being a for profit institution means potential conflict of interest.
If it really bothers you that much, you can also take the content, and add it yourself, as the infographic is licensed under CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0.
Perhaps just an addendum explaining that profit-driven Canadian news outlets are not included here due to the risk of being swayed by American interests.
I really like that wiggly guy on the APTN logo. They give a good vibe just dancing in front of the sunset :)
The London Free Press?! For fucks sakes my home city really has gone to shit, thank goodness I left…
Looking at this, it seems to me americans don’t care about us french canadians…I can’t tell if that’s a good thing or not 🤪
Sorry if Im a broken record but I like to remind my Maritimes homies that the Saltwire (or whatever its called now) and the Chronical Herald 🤮 are also American owned.
Added the Chronical Herald!
There’s a good argument here for a law that Canadian media should be owned by Canadians.
APTN is worth including on the right side there eh. It’s a national network.
APTN News has been added (thanks for making the case, I just didn’t have time to look into them)
A big shout out to CHEK TV out of Victoria, fully employee owned and community oriented. News and some investigative long form segments. Free streaming, can watch livestream and shorts as a guest. Apps available for various platforms. Not totally parochial and sometimes very good.
Thanks, I was unaware of CHEK TV. Looks like a great addition!
Who suspected the “London free press” to be Canadian? And why are they American?
London Ontario, not London England
Oh dang, another London!
There’s also Paris, Ontario nearby, but that is much smaller.
And likely nicer than Paris, France
Also, don’t forget about independent local news (if it exists in your area)
If you have further feedback on the content, please add it to this post.
I just drafted up this infographic, because I thought the other one was missing other important media outlets.
What about the Beaverton?
Came here yo say this :)
See my comment regarding the Beaverton here.
Basically, I wanted to avoid satirical media.
