The working class makes up the largest population it is insane to me that we seem to hold such little power of change.
I know I know half of the answer is ‘bc we are too exhausted’.
But realistically almost everyone is feeling the 2 income household requirement, exhorbant childcare costs until they get into school (even school doesn’t align with standard 8 hour workday in most cases so after care is usually needed). The cost of EVERYTHING is just going up and up.
We need to fit in self care, better food, exercise, social time, chores, errands. if you have a disabled or elderly family member needing care either pay or make time for that (the gov’t rate paid to take care of your own is seldom a liveable wage).
Increased wages doesn’t help much when the cost of living just goes up in relation since there’s no cap on profit margin and the 1% won’t live on less.
We are working more than before and seem to have less personal time than ever.
I’ll take a 4 day workweek, I’ll take a 6 hour workday…but something has got to give with “full time” reform. Yes? No?
What will it take for us to DO something about this?
