Could this be from someone who immigrated to Ireland from the US after Trump got elected again? I could see someone on the left buying a Tesla years ago for the environment’s sake and deciding to flee the country after the election, with obtaining a job, immigration, etc. taking a couple of months.

I don’t own a Tesla, but I’m looking to get out of the US.

The numbers are the year it was registered. The car could sit on the lot for months before being registered, or the car could be made to order months+ in advance and delivered fresh from the factory and registered immediately. But the registration comes after the purchase for a new vehicle, and doesn’t necessarily happen at the same time.

Either way though, he might have bought it last year or so, but that was hardly before Elon went crazy.

I like to point out that he’s always been a fascist, people just didn’t pay attention.

His dad’s been in the press as a racist for decades. His maternal grandparents were part of the Technocracy conspiracy (yes, really) and fled Canada for South Africa in the 50s, and his grandmother played a role in raising him.

He’s a born and raised fascist from a fascist family, he just played yall for suckers.

Ah so plates go with the vehicles in other words?

Am in the US and when you get your tags they are associated with you. If you switch vehicles you take your plates with you. They are good unless you permanently move to another state then you are supposed to get different ones after a certain period of time.

Depends on the state, for the record. CA does the car thing, but every other state I’ve lived in is as you say

This is actually highly dependent on the state you’re in. Not all states keep the plate with the person. Some keep the plate with the car. FYI.

Isn’t it just when the plate is registered?

If you bought a car in 2000 and registered it with a new plate today, wouldn’t it have a new plate with 25? They could have had their plate stolen and requested a new one no?

No, it’s when the car is registered. If the plate was stolen and you requested a new one, you’d get the same registration number. The plate identifies the car, basically.

If you bought a car in 2000 and never registered it before 2025, then you’d get a 251 plate. But you wouldn’t be able to drive it on public roads for those 25 years.

Not sure they’d give you a new number if yours was stolen, if you got to pick a new registration they’d still probably want you to get the same year and locality. Otherwise you’d be paying for a full custom plate, so why would you just pick the latest year and not something interesting?

It’s possible they ordered the car sometime back in 2024, maybe even earlier, then registered the car in 2025 but I think it’s a stretch to say this was before Elon went crazy.
