  • I really feel like the quality of the property began to decline after the TNG crew started making movies. Everything (both on TV and the Big Screen) started to thoroughly suck starting with Insurrection. After that point, it’s easier to name what I liked than it is to name what I disliked. I liked the first reboot movie. I liked the first couple seasons of SNW. That’s about it.

Not to say the eras that I liked were free of dogs. I, V and Generations are all pretty terrible. TNG Seasons 1-2 were not great. The Way to Eden exists, lol.

My biggest gripe is so much crap got made in this modern era. They’re able to do things much faster now. They really hurt a property that imo was already dragging by piling on so much dogshit.

My biggest hope is that Star Trek gets something made that manages to do for it what Andor did for Star Wars.

  • What’s fucked up about this world is that here we are, discussing the brand, using the name, leaving a footprint on a public message board. It is not even remotely unrealistic in this new reality that you could actually be in the employ of the company who manufactures this clothing to engage me with this “sarcastic” response (and you might not even be a real person). That’s what the Internet has become: unlimited marketing opportunity where no mention of your identification is worthless and no press is bad press.

Of course, you could also just be a sarcastic human pointing out that you think this is an idiotic comment. This is one of the reasons why it works so effectively. I can’t really make a judgment about what is true here and neither can anyone reading it.

All I’m doing is just pointing something out: if they wanted to censor the brand… why didn’t they? Because they didn’t. They pretended to. Barely. It could just be a sloppy OP, but obviously I don’t think so.

Just because not everything is a conspiracy doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.

  • Yeah, they’ve done this on this one particular site that I like to read, one old (hilarious) celebrity blogger who made a new home on [redacted]. [redacted] is pure shit. I dunno exactly what they’re doing but the ads they serve up are largely local rather than third party - and they’re served up so aggressively the site is all but unreadable on my phone. So ads are crazy in-your-face despite having adblock on the phone itself and a Pi-Hole! Just to keep reading the guy I like I had to set up a shortcut that loads it in reader view to bypass all the bullshit and fuck knows how long that will last before they somehow figure out how to block reader view.

Edit: I probably shouldn’t be giving them ideas, lol.

  • (And I know I’m sure as shit missing things. )
THEN you have the orange moron and his crap. Which you all voted for a second fucking time.

One thing you’re missing is the Electoral College, which means that morons in Wyoming have votes that count three times anybody else’s. Because 49% of voters (who are themselves only 65% of the population - so 31% of the population overall) voted for him a second time, and that’s assuming that his quote about Elon Musk was just offhand bullshit and not outright admission of voting fraud:

“He knows those computers better than anybody. All those computers. Those vote-counting computers… And we ended up winning Pennsylvania like in a landslide. So it was pretty good. Pretty good. So thank you to Elon.”

  • Well, now you can’t say all the older not chronically online fans you know rave about it, because I’m older, not chronically online and I think it sucks.

Edit: I’ve just found out that “not chronically online” means “too incompetent to do shit online” so my apologies for misunderstanding. I thought it just meant, you know, not being online a lot. Like me. I’ve posted to Lemmy about 10 times in the past 5 days. I have literally no other social media accounts on the Internet. I was on Facebook for like a week in 2014 before I noped out. BUT! I can make an account on Lemmy, so my opinions about Star Trek are clearly only informed by being a chronically online mouth-breather.
