Davriellelouna@lemmy.worldto Canada@lemmy.ca•Alberta Removes Emissions Ceiling as Gas Flaring Hits New High0·16 days agoI studied in Canada and I left the country a loooong time ago. Yet I still pay close attention to Canadian politics. Because I really want to see Canada improve. How do I say this without offending anyone?
I can speak my mind more bluntly because I’m a foreigner.
Many Alberta politicians act like absolute cunts.
Alberta is one of the Jewels of the Canadian Federation. Named after Princess Alberta the favorite daughter of Queen Victoria, it’s a beautiful province that was blessed with enormous ressources.
In 1974, the New York Times reported the province has so much money it doesn’t know what to do with it:
ALBERTA FLOODED WITH OIL REVENUE
At time when most governments at every level, are struggling hard to stay solvent, Alberta, which produces 83 per cent of Canada’’ oil, has more money than it knows what to do with.
Yet all I hear is constant whining, whining, whining, whining, whining.
According to Statistics Canada, under Justin Trudeau, Alberta reached the highest oil production levels in history. In fact, Justin Trudeau opened a brand new pipeline:
Despite this, all I keep hearing from Alberta politicians is how the evil Justin oppressed/raped/murdered/despised hard working ordinary Albertans folks.
One of the responsibility of having enormous natural ressources is managing sustainably to ensure the next generations can live in a good environment
Yet Alberta politicians just keep whining about environmental rules. If they want their constituents to have cancer because of heavy metals from fracking and mining, if they want their rivers polluted by single-use plastics, I honestly don’t care.
The core issue is these Alberta corrupt politicians seem determined to blow up the planet, claiming there is no alternative. Fort McMurray burned the fuck down. Jasper burned the fuck down. But clearly the Alberta political leaders learned nothing from it.
My advice to the great people of Alberta: Take back your province. Improve the education system. Alberta has produced many great artists, historians, authors, scientists. You gave Canada many great figures. Develop your province is a sustainable way so your children can be proud of you and have a healthy environment.
You deserve so much better than the current mess.

I will spare you the pain of reading through all my Lemmy posts to try to build my psychological profile. (some people will definitely do that). There is no need for it. You can just ask.
I speak fluent french and lived in Canada for a while. I hate car dependency and I’m very worried about pollution. I hate economic concentration, advertising, and I want stronger labor rights. But I lean centrist socially. I have a lot of free time and try to encourage people to participate to politics. I love open source software like Gimp, Krita, VLC, LibreOffice. I don’t like AI.
Any question you have ?
Davriellelouna@lemmy.worldto News@lemmy.world•There is no safe amount of processed meat to eat, according to new research83·17 days agoI’m actually not surprised at all by the result of this study.
We know from several studies that fish 🐟 , eggs🥚, nuts 🌰 and chicken 🐔 are much healthier sources of protein than red meat 🥩.
From Cornell University:
Unprocessed red meat and processed meat consumption leads to a slightly higher risk of heart disease and premature death, according to a new study from researchers at Cornell and Northwestern University
https://news.cornell.edu/stories/2020/02/study-red-meat-processed-meat-hike-heart-disease-risk
From Harvard University:
People who eat just two servings of red meat per week may have an increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to people who eat fewer servings, and the risk increases with greater consumption, according to a new study led by researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.
“Given our findings and previous work by others, a limit of about one serving per week of red meat would be reasonable for people wishing to optimize their health and wellbeing” said senior author Walter Willett, professor of epidemiology and nutrition.
https://hsph.harvard.edu/news/red-meat-consumption-associated-with-increased-type-2-diabetes-risk/
From Oxford University:
Red and processed meat linked to increased risk of heart disease, Oxford study shows.
Overall, the evidence from the analysis indicated that each 50 g/day higher intake of processed meat (e.g. bacon, ham, and sausages) increased the risk of coronary heart disease by 18%.
Each 50 g/day higher intake of unprocessed red meat (such as beef, lamb and pork) increased the risk of coronary heart disease by 9%.
There was no clear link between eating poultry (such as chicken and turkey) and an increased risk of coronary heart disease.

I followed his recent Senate race in Texas. In a campaign speech, Cruz said he was fighting the elite.

- His father owns an oil company in Canada.
- He attended a private prep school in Houston. His classmates were Bush family kids.
- He attended Harvard University and Princeton
- His wife Heidi Cruz is a top executive at Goldman Sachs

Why do US prosecutors simply refuse to do their job? You break the law. You get criminally prosecuted. It’s not that hard.

France has 2 round parliamentary elections.
-
First round: You vote for someone to represent your constituency. Only 2 candidates remain.
-
Second round: Two weeks later, it’s the second round. You vote for one of the 2 candidates that won the first round. The winner becomes an MP.
Throughout France, Marine Lepen candidates won 35% to 40% of the votes in the first round. They qualified for the second round. Luckily, in the second round, citizens rallied against Lepen candidates, voting for whoever was their opponent.
What will happen if Nigel Farage gets 35% or 40% 😲? You don’t have a second round…
If France used the FPTP voting system, Marine Lepen would be ruling the country with a huge majority in Parliament.
