  • Hobnobbing with Abbott is always gross.

Still, with my parents dyed-in-the-wool Texas Republicans who were at least enjoying parroting “Talarico wants to make everyone trans” whether or not they earnestly believed it, the best I’m hoping for is that they are disgusted enough with Paxton to stay home or vote third party. My mom was disgusted enough with Trump the second time to write in Condolezza Rice (Dad is still a fan), so that’s about where the bar is. People like them will never think Democrats are anything but bad, so giving them social permission to abandon Republicans seems useful.

  • This one would require more reworking of our Legislative Branch. There are 435? Representatives currently, so the country is broken up into 435 house districts, with each district/ community voting for a single person to represent them. So you have a quantization problem; you can’t really split a single person.

I’m not saying I can’t imagine a world where we do it (whole states vote for all the Representatives from their state?), only that meaningful change is an uphill battle against 250 years of coagulated inertia + notably bad actors now diffuse through the system.

  • Deflecting a large, irregular, rotating mass in deep space is a pretty different mission from launching a missile at LEO targets or launching an explosive vehicle from a satellite currently in orbit. The people I know that worked DART are now working other civil space missions like Dragonfly, the mission to Titan.

I guess they both involve orbital dynamics to calculate the rendezvous, but they’re very different orbital regimes.

Anyway, I disagree that it was military adjacent or more appropriate to be done via military funding. It doesn’t have direct military application in the near future. Even proposals I’ve seen for stuff like GPS on the moon is being funded on the civilian side.

  • I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because, uh, some people out there in our nation don’t have maps. And, I believe that our education like such as in South Africa and the Iraq, everywhere like such as, and I believe that they should—our education over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., or should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future for our children.
