Technology@lemmy.world•It Appears That the AI Bubble Has Just Burst in ChinaEnglish
251·1 day agoThey don’t have a handful of companies financing each other in a giant game of venture-capital-human centipede that will topple the entire market when it goes belly up.
So with hdd prices, not super tenable but i keep all my games on a 2nd drive formatted as ext4.
I’m a break hopper. If I like a distro. I’ll use it. Months and sometimes years. Then, if there’s some kind of breakage and I can’t figure it out and I decide to do a fresh install, I’m like “why not try something new”

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI bubble could burst and take global economy with it, IMF warns
6·8 days agoNo that’s kinda the point. If AI charged for actual cost, no one could afford it. It’s all subsidized now. Basically a money shredder

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•AI bubble could burst and take global economy with it, IMF warns
19·8 days agoWouldn’t matter. The cost to execute the tokens is greater than the subscription. It’s all VC funds that they’re burning every day. It’s inevitable to fail unless they can convince every day users to pay $2k a month

36·9 days agoYup! I love AI for banging out object models. I can give it a pdf listing the spec with what amounts to hundreds of member variables and getters setters. I can say “hey AI turn this into a class, use the GOF builder pattern, and boom it does it. Saves me hours of monotonous typing.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are we so weird about speed limits (US)?
4812·12 days agoYou’re coming to a 4 way stop. No one is around. You slow to approx 3 mph, then move through as no one is around. That’s pretty fucking anal

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Why are we so weird about speed limits (US)?English
838·12 days agoCops want it that way.
In the USA, you can follow the average driver on a 10 minute drive and they’ll technically commit at least 1 infraction. My FIL got a $90 ticket last month for not coming to a complete stop at a stop sign.
The rules of the road are so anally technical so that cops have a valid reason to pull you over whenever they desire. That’s it.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Self-Hosting a DNS Sinkhole is really importantEnglish
9·12 days agoIt’s a more complete dns server. You can more easily do dns over https, set up zones, and custom dns entries are a lot easier imo.
In summary it’s more focused on being dns, the ad blocking is a feature on top. You also don’t have to manually configure unbound for recursive dns like you do pi hole. Etc etc

Still too performant. Needs to start a fork bomb in between the search and return

1·14 days agoIt’s how I stay in touch with friends. I use Vesktop. Flatpak. Removes the tracking
Edit: appreciate the concern, but we talk about games and stuff. I’m not doing banking or personal shit on discord. If China records whatever is said, not too worried about PII

0·18 days agoMilwaukee M12 Fuel, electronic wrench from like 10 to 250 ft lbs I think.
It’s just crazy expensive. You could get a half dozen hand torque wrenches for the same cost.
