it’s hard to tell whether it’s autism or severe childhood social neglect. I think it’s both.

There’s a difference between justice and fairness. Justice isn’t always equal.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you think homeless people are responsible for the situation they are in?
11·2 days agoIn general, homelessness has a cause. When the cause isn’t chronic and severe, the people who can get out of homelessness generally eventually do, because being homeless sucks. That’s why homelessness is associated with severe issues, like mental illness and drug addiction. Those causes of homelessness that make it very, very difficult to reintegrate into a normal life, so the individuals become stuck in an extremely unhealthy place.

Autism@lemmy.world•It's Wednesday 10/28/2026. Hey, What's Going On!
3·3 days agoI had oral argument last night and did so bad. Also, I have to meet with advisor today to register for classes tomorrow, and my class options are not great. My externship wants me available Monday and Tuesday mornings, which eliminates pretty much the only directly relevant classes available.

1·4 days agoI did some pro bono volunteering tonight, and literally all it took was one instance of someone looking at me like I’m mildly strange to set off my rejection sensitivity. I was upset the rest of the night and cried on the walk home. ugh.
I gained a ton of weight from stress eating, then I just started overeating sweets for fun. It’s gonna be an absolute B when I decide to drop this weight.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do you all think of Effective Altruism
82·6 days agoIt’s not a bad idea to consider the ways your charity can go further by donating abroad. I definitely want a world where we help people have mosquito nets and vaccines. It just got weird because cult-minded individuals and the mentally unwell got involved with it.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Could we replace college with something like Chess or Go, for general intelligence requirements?
6·9 days agoPeople do the readings. Also, even if they didn’t, they’re still sitting in lectures and learning substantially more than people who don’t. Saying you learn the same amount as someone who put in years of work, when you have done nothing to learn, is just cope. The fact is, you don’t develop the skills without putting in the time.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Could we replace college with something like Chess or Go, for general intelligence requirements?
10·9 days agoYes, spending thousands of hours reading books does make you better educated than someone who didn’t.

11·9 days agoNo, you are not better off being less educated.
We typically movie cuddle or hang out with his family. He has said he’d like to go out more sometimes, but I really just want to cuddle.
0% creative. It’s not really something I do. Artistic creation is so unimportant to me and out of my mind that, when my boyfriend started talking about how Digger is about art, I was like ??? Oh, interesting.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•[serious] Why is Lemmy community generaly against AI?
61·11 days agoCoCounsel is a professional legal service offered by WestLaw. WestLaw is one of the two major legal information companies. They were the ones who transitioned the law from books and brought it online in the 90s. Their dataset is exclusively their databases, which I would guess contain between 90-99% of all American Law ever written.
CoCounsel does exactly what you said in your earlier comment. It scans thousands of legal documents to find exactly what you’re looking for. If I want to find a case that talks about both the 4th amendment during a jurisdictional issue, it can instantly find a case with a a direct quote.
In this case, I asked it to do a multi-step process: find ~50 cases referenced in a specific document, alphabetize them, and add a two sentence summary below each one. That was too much for it to handle at once. It got confused.

31·11 days agoIt’s funny you sent this just now. I just spent like 45 minutes trying to get Co-Counsel to make a list of all of the cases in a brief I’m working on. It got confused and couldn’t. I would’ve been done by now if I just used my brain. /shrug

Good morning! I registered for classes yesterday. This semester’s options were bizarrely bad, and the few good ones filled up before my time slot. I kept making and remaking schedules as stuff filled up. I was so distracted by it that I didn’t prepare for my midterm for more than 90 minutes and was deeply underprepared. Which would’ve been fine, if it wasn’t oral argument and everyone else didn’t kick ass. Oh well. I’m lowering the standard for everyone else. :)
