What games will be billed at an hourly rate that are worth playing that won’t be on Steam or the high seas? Console exclusives that will be available to emulate at some point?

Not sure why the updated model is called “Westernized”. Is there a “Politically Neutralized” version?

Here I was thinking they made some gunpowder a long time ago and then the largest population in the world just did nothing but play around on erhus and guzhengs after that.

It’s just for making a Personal Home Page, so not a big deal either way, right?

In theory, a SaaS offering should have economies of scale and should be cheaper than self-hosting, especially if you put a monetary value on the time you spend maintaining your own server(s). However, number must go up, so this may not be the case.
There are a few other factors that may come into play that make self-hosting the more economically favorable option:

If I’m paying that much for a device, I damned well better have root access. I’m done buying machines that big corpos control.

That’s fair. I’m a fan of open weight models, but the fact that they’re not open source and are instead akin to a compiled binary means there could be something nefarious hidden within. Best policy is to use proper guardrails with any LLM and don’t blindly trust it.

If I give you good price, can you please put in altermagnet?

What, you don’t want to read a 10 page doc made from a 2 sentence prompt?

So which trade are you thinking of changing to?
I’m sure there will be a lot of demand for AI slop cleaner-uppers in the near future.

People at my company are broadly phoning it in with AI. Everyone on my team was complaining the other day that people keep posting in our team Slack channel with Claude and we are the only humans in the conversation.
I have nearly the same setup, except OpenCode for the harness. I run 200k context for anything that doesn’t need vision, or 150k otherwise. Typically get about 30 t/s decode With MTP, starts at close to 800 t/s for prefill and drops to the 200s for a long context. I’d imagine higher decode speeds are possible with some tinkering, but I haven’t gotten around to it.

PS5 emulators are making good strides of late. AnyPS5 is especially quite the flex: run PS5 games natively your Linux gaming PC. 💪

On a semi-related note, anyone using a self-hosted Steam-like experience like Drop OSS or similar? I’ve been meaning to try out Drop because my family has a few gaming machines that would benefit from the ease of a store like Steam, but I refuse run anything with DRM or to let any games or clients like Steam have an internet connection to collect data.

Ahem, you’re not talking to me, you’re talking to little Claudie.

Now we all know where to avoid aiming projectiles.

Maybe the rule should be that if you use AI, just make sure Linus can’t tell you did.

For anyone who has been missing Microsoft’s tender, loving embrace since switching to Linux. Copilot for Linux is in development, I presume.
My neighbor across the street has a Ring camera pointed right at my house, so Amazon doesn’t need a vehicle driving by.
ReactOS is a great idea in concept, but development has been too slow to make an impact. Maybe this will help? Not sure why they’re making a fork instead of contributing to the main project.
