Most established Western democracies are perceived positively on the world stage. There's one major exception.

According to the 2026 Democracy Perception Index, Israel has the most negative perception of all countries in the survey. Israel’s net perception score is -24. North Korea is next at -19. Afghanistan is also -19. Iran is -17. The United States is -16. The survey included 46,667 respondents across 85 countries. Switzerland and Canada have the highest perception at +36. The data was published by Visual Capitalist. The survey was conducted by Nira Data and the Alliance of Democracies Foundation.
