A Curtin University-led report has revealed that Western Australia (WA) consumes more than three times the global average of raw materials and must change its economy to reduce waste and pollution, conserve resources and lessen reliance on new materials
Good luck with that in a gas is good for climate change state, a state who elects young earth creationists like Andrew Hastie.
This is due to mining operations and perhaps new development of urban sprawl, cause I guarantee WA consumers are not consuming 3x more than the average Australian. Therefore this argument is disingenious; it’s no different to pointing out Australia’s consumption/emissions when most of those are to extract and refine resources for other countries (e.g. not Aussie consumers). See embodied energy!
It’s the same disinformation tactic used by capitalism/racists to blame China for Co2, even though they’re producing OUR products, and capitalism outsourced the dirtiest and most polluting industries to China specifically to evade western regulations.
“Global average” is also disingenuous, as WA is not a country. Every country has specific regions consuming far more than average due to the distribution of resources and economic activity (e.g. Alberta, Canada).
We need to stop pointing the finger at “others” and start pointing the finger at corporations and our governments subservience to capital. Our lack of forceful, mandatory, decarbonisation.
