After searching around for answers to which server I should join, I came to the conclusion it didn’t matter much. It seems I was incorrect, however, as pixelfed.social, the server I eventually chose, currently has IG imports disabled. This is an issue, as that was basically my while reason for joining, to migrate from IG.

So my question is, where should I go now?

I don’t have an answer for you yet, but do you know/have info on why it was disabled?

    Some guesses I have are

    • they grew a lot recently and are dealing with the influx of new users, and temporarily disabled it. They might re-enable it later?
    • it is in development and restricted to admins only for now? https://pixelfed.social/site/kb/import
    • it was disabled due to Meta’s recent policy changes, in which case yea you would need to find another instance

I’m not familiar with the feature, but I’d like to use it when I eventually move myself

One year ago it was also disabled. Reason 3 is so dumb, importing from instagram means that the person want to stop using instagram or limit it’s usage. It can be a turn down from using pixelfed

Good point, the third guess doesn’t make sense. I’m going to cross it out

I mean it is still possible, sometimes we make decisions based purely about emotions and forgot what logic

It just says that the feature has been disabled by admins. Presumably due to a huge influx of users. I was just hoping someone knew of an instance that was in a better position to migrate to.
