I recommend you start with the Mickey Mouse Club, just to make sure you have all the background.
Actually lore-wise the world building really starts with steamboat willie. If you miss out on that the character progression and backstories are just gonna make no sense.
True, but the Steamboat Willie lore is rooted in comedic stage acts of the 1800s - most of which are lost to time.
Which is to say, it’s hopeless for any modern viewer to truly understand.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Steamboat Willie. The humor is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of early animation techniques, most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer’s head. There’s also Mickey Mouse’s optimistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterization - his personal philosophy draws heavily from classic vaudeville literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realize that they’re not just funny - they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence, people who dislike Steamboat Willie truly ARE idiots - of course they wouldn’t appreciate, for instance, the humor in Mickey’s iconic catchphrase “Hot dog!”, which itself is a cryptic reference to Charlie Chaplin’s silent film era. I’m smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Walt Disney’s genius unfolds itself on their cinema screens. What fools… how I pity them. 😂 And yes, by the way, I DO have a Steamboat Willie tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It’s for the ladies’ eyes only - And even they have to demonstrate that they’re within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.
Yeah. Gotta do the same with Big Hero 6
You can kinda skip Big Hero 4, it’s sort of a side plot from the main story. Big Hero 5 really picks up the story from where Big Hero 3 left off for the most part.
Only the even-numbered ones are any good, just save your money
