Make sure you are enrolled.
You can’t enroll once advance voting starts.
To vote in a general election you need to be enrolled by midnight, 13 days before Election Day.
For the 2026 General Election this means you can’t enrol or update your details after midnight, 25 October 2026.

Was having drinks with someone who was doing some work for the electoral commission. They said the government was expecting results quicker because of this change, but it wasn’t really going to change anything as it’s not much of a bottleneck.
Will be interesting to see if there are changes or if this was just a change to make voting harder for no reason.
Listening to Bernard Hickey yesterday; he was saying, last election 400k people registered in the period between voting starting and election day; and that there are currently ~70k 18-25yo’s not registered.
400k is almost 10% of the total number of people that can vote.
The people who tend to register late; even on the day, are generally the working poor, those people most likely to vote against the current government; this restriction is nothing more than a cynical attempt to bias the election to Nat/Act/NZF voters.
Damn, that’s a huge number. I wasn’t expecting it to be so large.
I don’t see a reason why the cutoff had to be the advance voting period either, if it’s about getting results quicker. Definitely seems to be the reason you point out.
Getting results a bit quicker is the cover story; disenfranchisement is the goal, and it is of a specific portion of the population.
