i left reddit for good today with their obvious attempt at controlling the narrative like the rest of big social media. long live the lemmy federation

If you’ve replaced the functionality of reddit in your life, and reddit itself is heading in a direction you don’t approve of, why continue discussing it?

Because why discuss something that’s not in your life anymore, why make/join a community dedicated to something you’re NOT doing anymore?

are you saying you never bitch about things in the past, like shitty jobs or school or something. And besides, back on reddit (new here so idk what kind have formed yet) there were plenty, like exmormom, stopdrinking, etc

Why would you come to c/reddit just to ask why someone would talk about reddit

That’s perfectly reasonable, no? See c/reddit on my frontpage, click and ask why

Project what you will and downvote like the redditor you are, but nobody has answered the question.

It’s really not, an article every now and then when there is something notable, sure, but an entire community with numerous posts a day with enough attention to get on my unrelated feed is not “worth”

Which is fine, I’m not trying to yuck the yums of anyone, I’m just asking why. Why obsess over a website you used to use?

People just like to talk about things, especially things they may have some connection to.

It makes sense to have a place to do that. Otherwise, some wanker would come by and shit in the pool because people are talking about it elsewhere. Probably tell them to go create a sub for it or some shit while they huff their own.

I’m familiar with the forces that are behind the creation of new communities, I’m asking why so many people want to talk about a website they have specifically divested from

For the same reason we talked on reddit about twitter and facebook all the time. It were previous systems some of us spend the better part of a decade on. It is interesting to share the impression while watching together the Vesusvius erupting and sealing Pompeii and discussing its last chapter.
