Up until around then, you could still live a very full, and productive life, without ever touching a computer (embedded doesn’t count here). That point was about just under half my life… The summers of the 90s? I barely touched a computer, and almost never on weekends. There has been a massive, and rapid shift in paradigm for people who lived through that gap. That said, yes, people can keep up, but it wasn’t required until it caught loads of people by surprise.
Up until… Id say 2005 or so… using the internet, or even a computer, wasn’t a requirement for a large number of jobs.

That point was about just under half my life…
