The Romans, however, had a form of armor made of steel plates back ~100 AD, and are thus mocking the later ‘barbarians’ for thinking they invented it. Long before the Romans, the Myceneans in Greece had a period around ~1500 BCE in which they used armor made of overlapping bronze plates
