Maybe slightly off topic but the other night I went out to get a snack and in the parking lot of the adjacent clinic behind the gas station I went to, I thought I saw a possum just washing itself in the rain but when my lights actually went over it, it was the biggest god damn RAT I had ever seen. Thing made the subway rats in New York look like field mice!
This might have been a nutria or a muskrat. We have them here in Europe as introduced species and they always appeared to me as huge rats when I encountered them somewhere at night.
The sight of mama possum carrying a ton of these little monsters and they keep falling off then climbing back on – very adorable, yet heartbreaking, knowing mama will not wait for the stragglers
