It’s a 1989 Singer(?) Sonata Sew-Ease 6621.

I’m sure it’s not the finest piece of machinery out there, but for $10 it came with a pedal, several bobbins, some thread, a few needles, and everything on it appears to be in working order.

After a video chat with my mom, I was able to run a test stitch:

I’m not sure if this is gonna take off as a hobby for me, but I’m gonna give it a go with what time I can spare! I even have a crappy projector I might try to use 😬

It might be a little frustrating to learn everything with old machines. I found mine at work and it took me a few hours to repair and not everything works as intended but it’s enough for most things and it definitely became one of my hobbies :)

I should learn to sew. It’s the best of both worlds, creative and practical, and some of my pants could use some mending…

Very nice. Sewing is not something I do often, but it has been a good skill to have at many times and has saved my family and I a lot of money.

Give a shot to making something relatively easy that will give you a good feel for the capability of the machine and doesn’t necessarily require a pattern. Curtains were the last thing I made that fit that description.

Congrats!! I got a sewing machine as a Christmas present several years ago. Had no idea how to use it or what to do with it, but started just making stuff whenever the need arose. Bags, pillows, stuff like that. Objectively amateurish, but useful, and now they’re some of my favorite things. The stuff I make is still rough, but it’s useful!

Thanks! Yeah I feel like I’m gonna put it to occasional use. I definitely already hand stitched repairs on my hammocks last year 😂
