The reasoning behind why it’s okay to release for Microsoft Windows is intellectually lazy but at least buying video games is now like buying chicken eggs - you can select how much suffering is associated with the grade of the product you buy.

If someone buys the game om xbox, microsoft gets a direct 30% cut. If someone buys it “on windows”, not so much. That is a very distinct difference.

Yeah it’s microsoft’s operating system, and they do sell licences for it, but I very much doubt anyone is buying a windows licence just to play the game.

Could they have done more than skip the smallest console by install base? Sure. Is it performative? Maybe. But it sends out a clear message regardless, a message I am in favour of.

“purchasing the game through Steam does not generate revenue for Microsoft in the same way that purchasing it through the Xbox would.”

Besides, Microsoft has two PC storefronts: the Microsoft Store and the GamePass PC app. Which I’m sure Big Walk isn’t on either one of those.
