I must be in the minority, but I was wholly unimpressed with The Last of Us, story-wise. Yes, it’s well told but there was absolutely nothing memorable about it until the last 5 minutes which set up an absolutely amazing sequel. Joel is not a good man, and that was my takeaway from the first game but it meant nothing since it didn’t really matter until the very end.
I loved seeing the contrast between Joel’s, Ellie’s, and Abby’s responses to the craving for revenge and I think that’s exactly what makes The Last of Us’ story as good as it is, and that wouldn’t have happened if Joel didn’t get what he got.

I still want to watch it, but the second game was Tragic. It starts and ends hurting all your feelings.
