While I consider this black metal rather than thrash, it is close enough to the likes of Venom, that it could also be considered blackened thrash/speed metal. Bathory’s self titled album just screams Venom, in many places outright copies Venom’s Black Metal. Despite this, I can’t get enough of this album. I’m even considering purchasing a repress on vinyl. It takes what Venom has, adds a darker atmosphere, somehow even worse production and more extreme vocals, unfortunately losing Venom’s charm and energy along the way.
