Yeah, I agree with your overall point but disagree with you that the game will never be released. Mostly for semantic reasons to be honest but I guess that’s the kind of person I am.
The release is definitely a pretty arbitrary thing these days even with non MMOs, I’m thinking of Cyberpunk for example where the game had an official release but then became a pretty different game over time as they fixed issues. That said, there was still a release and there will be a release for Star Citizen as well, it’s just up to the developer at what point that want to draw that arbitrary line.
I wouldn’t call the first Star Citizen we got with just the hangar module a released game. I also wouldn’t call the current version a released game because it doesn’t live up to what CIG is aiming for for a release version.
Still, like I said it’s mostly a semantic thing, I agree with your broader point and get frustrated at all the focus on the game “having no release date”. It’s technically true but also you can play what’s there right now and see the progress happening. After so many of these copy paste articles though I think it’s best just to ignore them and continue having fun with the game. Eventually they will cut a release and the headlines will complain about something else.
