Subscription pricing for security updates kinda sucks.
Subscription for the OS period, even if security updates were free, is pretty much the opposite of what I wanted a Jolla phone for back when I put a deposit on one. Are they actually delivering devices this time? Last time they got built but somehow were unable to be shipped to the people who paid for them.
And they never delivered their tablets despite collecting money for them.
Is this an ad?
Well I imagined their website was enough to get the context of the question. I heard about Jolla from a random Fediverse post so I went straight to just search its name eventually finding their website I just wanted to know if they sucked 🙃
They certainly had a rough spot about 10 years back, never delivered a device I put a deposit on, only refunded half my deposit.
Just did a whole routine to check the link for UTM parameters. 😭 (It links to the bare domain.)
It was the bees knees a few years back. It feels like they’ve lost momentum.
Today, I’d imagine safetynet puts a lot of road bumps in running apps with DRM like Spotify and Netflix. Also banking apps and apps for bus tickets and such.
solid jolla C2 review on YouTube
Seems jolla had a rough patch, great to see they’re still around more than a decade after “the first one”
I wonder what the timeline is like, where a Microsoft mole didn’t kill MeeGo, Nokia avoided the Microsoft fiasco, and there’s a solid, open, widely used Linux phone market, all over the world, successfully competing with Apple and Android walled gardens.
Getting there could be worth the OS update subscription fee.
