President Trump Monday threatened to send Americans to a notorious prison in El Salvador, asking President Nayib Bukele to “build about five more places.”

Sending American prisoners to foreign jails would violate the Constitution’s Eighth Amendment, which bars “cruel and unusual” punishments, according to criminal justice advocates.

It’s not the first time Trump has threatened to send U.S. citizens to Salvadoran prisons. His comments Monday came while meeting with Bukele, who said returning a wrongly deported Maryland man would be “preposterous” despite a Supreme Court order to facilitate his return.

Human rights observers have said the Salvadoran prison is overcrowded, and have documented instances of inhumane conditions and torture.

I really hope we can all be on the same page that sending Americans to a cruel international prison for the act of opposing the Supreme Leader will be met with resistance of the second amendment variety. What would we have to lose at that point? I’d rather be shot dead than be tortured the rest of my days.

That’s the direction it could go. Take away everything someone has to lose and they’ll act like they have nothing left to lose.

Why is this not enough to impeach and remove him from office? He’s planning to send American citizens to a place of no return where they won’t come back even if sent by accident

Especially after the president said he’d deport Americans. If you submitted the article, how long do you think you’d last before you accidentally not accidentally got deported to a gulag?

I sincerely believe we’re a long way off from deporting Opposition Congresspeople - The real question is whether there can possibly be individuals in Trump’s own party that would act against him. He’s shown a lot of ways that he can be very punitive toward politicians in ways that actually hurt them.

Everyone loves it. With the exception of a small handful of people in the government, they are all bought and paid for. That’s the only explanation that makes even the slightest bit of sense.

Right we for your rights to really be honored you have to get a chance in court. They already said they won’t get Mr Garcia back from El Salvador. If they just send a US citizen there without trial it doesn’t matter.
