Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated sharply on Thursday, as the Pakistani government said it would consider it “an act of war” if India followed through on a threat to block the flow of crucial rivers as punishment for a deadly militant attack in Kashmir.

Great, another conflict. And this one not only about religion but it is also about water rights. And both parties have nukes.

Cannot wait to see, how this plays out…

That actually means they won’t use nukes since it is suicide.

Japan didn’t have nukes, so they were nuked by US.

Unless a madmen or fanatic is running the show. We will see…

          You are right about Madman.

M.A.D, Mutually Assured Destruction, It would have to a very extreme situation for a country to go nuclear against another nuclear power. A situation where suicide is the better option.

Also have to remember that the madman is not the one actually launching nukes. He is giving orders, hopefully the people actually launching nuke or carrying out orders have families (and prioritize their families over country) and are not mad too. There needs to be madmen all along the chain of command to want Mutual Assured Destruction.

Sadly I am not that optimistic.

Event without a real madman we had several close calls regarding nuclear escalation.

Remember the cuba crisis? Or NATO maneuver “Able Archer” during the 80th?
