As in “not GDR, not Third Reich, not Weimar Republic, not German or Holy Roman Empire”. Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.
Sorry, I only know it as Germany or Bundesrepublik Deutschland 🤷

I know a fair amount about the history of Germany.
I was just curious why you had said Federal, because I’ve never heard it refered to as that in English.
