Someone whose job it is to faciliate remembering a genocide calls a group of people “fundamentally evil”. Must have not ever walked into the museum.

He sees Palestinians as untermenschen.
Clearly the lessons learned weren’t about how what the Nazis did should never have been done to anybody but instead were about how they should never have done it to those of a specific ethnicity.
PS: Curiously, even though the Roma people (more widelly known as Gypsies) were equally targetted alongside the Jewish people by the Nazis, you almost never see them mentioned in official talk about and rememberances of the victims of the Holocaust.
The entirety of eastern europe were treated as untermensch. Hitler project was to germanize the east, just like the US settlers genocided the native.
Roma, LGBTQ+ people, Jahovah’s Witnesses, the deaf, and the disabled were all targeted by the Holocaust and none of them were given an ethno-state where they act with impunity towards the indigenous population.
The Holocaust wasn’t even the only genocide during WWII. What I’ve learned over my lifetime is a lot of people aren’t bothered by the Holocaust because it was the fucking Holocaust. They’re bothered it happened to people who look like them.
That certainly explains the huge difference in reaction in Germany and the US when Russia attacked Ukraine (so, even though they weren’t targeted on their ethnicity the victims are mainly Whites) compared to their reaction to the many times more deadly, very explicitly about ethnicity Genocide, being committed by Israel in Gaza were the victims are mainly Arabs.
In the Mainstream the Racism got disguised over the last half a century or so, but for most people empathy with the very human pain and suffering of others is filtered by a “could it be me there” filter.
The lesson the US took out of WW2 was not “don’t do a genocide”, but “don’t run out of oil”.
And Germany just learned “Never genocide the same people twice! Diversity is the key to genociding succesfully!”
They had very diverse genocides last time.
True, they have a lot of practice.
