Hi guys,

I have been suffering with this problem for a month. It’s been pretty bad. I’m 27/M.

So a month ago I had a bacterial infection (an urti) as confirmed by my doctor. Now I recovered quite quickly in 5 days, ending Monday.

So all was normal, for one week. Then on Sunday, after being completely fine (no symptoms) I went to play some sports. Football, for 2 hours. Worked up a sweat. No muscle pain, no shortness of breath, nothing.

The next day, 24 hours later, I had a sudden crushing fatigue and chills and fever. I went to rest and sleep. The next day all my symptoms came. It was literally like a switch flipped in my body and suddenly everything broke. On Saturday, I was normal and healthy. On Sunday, everything broke.

  • Super fatigued despite sleeping 8h, crushing fatigue, couldn’t keep my eyes open. Can’t focus at work or at least need tremendous effort to focus and think.
  • Brainfog (guessing with the above)
  • Complete loss of appetite - I used to eat ravenously but since a month I struggle to finish meals and don’t get hungry as often. I first noticed this when I went to get my usual lunch portion and halfway through I was completely full and struggling to eat.
  • Weird joint and muscle pains (this seems to go away with creatine 2g)
  • Random muscle twitches (also seems to go away with creatine 2g)
  • Sound sensitivity - Normal sounds like clanging or noisy buses seem noisier to me, giving me jumpscares. No light sensitivity though.
  • Cold intolerance - I now shiver after stepping out of the shower, this never happened before. I also hardly sweat now (but also because I hardly exert myself)
  • Insomnia - developed one week in once I discovered this subreddit. Now I sleep like 4h block then wake up every one/two hours. Like 2am-6am, then 6-7, 7-8, 8-9. I have not had a continuous block of 7/8h in 3 weeks.
  • Muscle weakness - Walking up a flight of stairs leaves my muscles super tense and tight, this has never happened to me before. Or lifting like a heavy bag immediately makes it super tired.
  • Sudden recovery at evening/night - In the evening I feel better. Less tired. At 10pm onwards I feel almost normal. Like brainfog clears, everything gone. Then the next day I wake up it starts again. This symptom seems really common in CFS. And my appetite, normally ravenous, comes back at night and I get super hungry and start eating.

This has been going on for a month. After one week of proper sleep and that horrible crushing fatigue, I went to google my symptoms and found out about CFS.

I’ve been pretty worried and immediately started pacing. I researched and found the Ron Davis itaconate shunt hypothesis. I went to see a GP to get my bloodwork done, all fine, no thyroid, no deficiency, no heart problems.

I’m praying I can recover and am on various solutions:

  • Nicotine patching (1.5mg 2D on 1D off)
  • Supplementing - GABA, S-Acetyl-Glutathione, L-Theanine, Mg Glycinate, Curcumin, anti-histamines
  • Diet - Higher protein

I’m also thinking (worse case scenario) of longer term solutions, especially geared towards LDN and LDA, etc.

Right now in the day my heart rate/BP goes up to like 140/90 and 90 HR and the adrenaline kind of removes the fatigue.

The doc prescribed propanolol and trazodone/ativan for sleep/anxiety. I am quite worried, it seems pretty early.

Wanted to get you guys advice. For the past year I had fallen sick quite often, every few months, with flu but always recovered quite quickly.

I’m really worried and am pacing. I still can go about my day, but very slowly, no exertion, and struggle fatigued with the brainfog.

The GP asked me to see a psychiatrist who then referred me to a neurologist to do testing. I’m pretty worried. Apart from eczema and seb derm, prior to this I didn’t have any long term health issues. I was pretty stressed from my work though. But not super stressed.

I’m sure some of the fatigue is due to my bad insomnia. But the loss of appetite and muscle weakness doesn’t happen with insomnia. It was all so sudden and overnight.

Obviously the only thing that gives me hope is that I’m young and previously healthy and if I pace and treat with LDN/LDA/Nic I may be able to get better. But I pray so.
