Of course, there’s an important group that falls outside the bounds of the study: anyone who got hooked on vaping without trying cigarettes first.

    Hmm

    Edit:

I checked other sources because the article is just bad

    https://www.oncologyrepublic.com.au/e-cigs-linked-to-increased-lung-cancer-risk-after-quitting-real-cigarettes/6075

They have these quotes from the researchers

Taken together, these findings suggest that, while e-cigarette use after quitting smoking may attenuate lung cancer-specific benefits of cessation, the broader health benefits of quitting conventional cigarettes are not eliminated

Although e-cigarettes contain potentially carcinogenic substances, dual use may nonetheless be associated with lower cumulative exposure to toxicants than exclusive combustible cigarette smoking

So it’s not quite the “wow” finding “futurism” seems to claim. It just reinforces the consensus on vapes: If it’s that or smoking, then vaping is better. That’s not news, that’s what doctors have been saying since vapes started becoming mainstream more than a decade ago.

IMO that kind of article is extremely damaging: it convinces smokers that vaping isn’t better, so they might as well keep their current habit.

Especially if the article is trash enough to warrant reading about the study specialized journals that take their job seriously to dispell the sensationalist headline. As we know people always read past the headline, and love to dig into jargon-heavy medicine journals to get a proper grasp of the underlying study.

    Shame.

At this point I do not fucking care one way or the other. The world is actively burning down with no signs of it getting any better. It’s either vaping or go back to cigarettes because I’m enjoying as many vices as I can during the crumbles
