A man who was caught in a car with £14,000 of drugs, while a lamb ate from a bag of chips in the back seat, has avoided jail.
John McNeil, 56, was a passenger in Lindsey Sangster’s vehicle which was stopped by police on the M74 in Glasgow on 22 April 2023.
Bags of heroin and cocaine were later recovered by a police dog underneath the front passenger seat of the Volkswagen Golf.
When quizzed about the animal - called Pablo - a sergeant claimed Sangster’s partner McNeil told him she was a “trainee shepherdess.” The duo were found guilty in September of possession of heroin and diamorphine with intent to supply.
Why would anyone think that the lamb should go to jail for eating tasty chips?
Wot’s charge? Eating me dinner? A succulent chippy dinner?
Do you have any idea what chips cost these days?!
There’s got to be a joke here about shepherds crooks but I’m too tired to think of one.
Fear and Loathing in Glasgow
Glas Vegas?
Damn it was right there!
Why did you do this to me, for what reason, what is the charge? Eating a packet of crisps? A succulent bag of crisps? Oh, that’s a nice headlock sir, oh, ah yes, I see that you know your judo well.
It’s a little-known clause referred to as “The Lamb Contingency”.
PC Jeff: 'Scuse me sir, can you wind down the window.
[Car window rolls down. PC Jeff Looks in]
PC Jeff: Dave!
[PC Dave rolls down police car window]
PC Dave: Yeah.
PC Jeff: Can ya check we haven’t got a wee exhaust leak inte our vehicle.
PC Dave: Sure. Why?
PC Jeff: Just do it…then come here and I’ll go check again.

Maybe the lamb was sacrificed in order to get a more lenient penalty.
