Uyghur children in China’s forced re-education camps are being brainwashed and forcibly assimilated by the Chinese Communist Party in fully residential schools. In addition, they must prove that they have become Chinese citizens and praise Xi Jinping.
I would guess they’re maybe talking about boarding schools that indigenous youth were forced to attend. The comparison seems apt.
