Since I recently ditched all mainstream social media, I was forced to lose a lot of buddies who were nice to talk to but not friends enough to go to privacy-respecting platforms for me. I only have two mainstream platforms for strictly for family/work stuff. I have IRL buddies and friends but my I miss having internet friends
I decided to use SimpleX Chat for private chats. I love it for having no account system, so I don’t need to give anyone my data. Matrix isn’t the best IMO. You either have to use Matrix.org or buy a VPS to use it. On SimpleX you still have servers but you don’t need to trust them because your username and avatar is end-to-end encrypted. To use it, you need just the FOSS app and a QR/link of your friend, that’s it
About me:
- I speak Russian fluently. I can help with it if you need to
- I love China and Mao and Deng and Xi
- Marxism-Leninism
- They/them
For those who are interested, the website is https://simplex.chat/. There are clients for most platforms. I can send a 1-time link over here as a reply, just paste it in the search bar inside the app
Edit: I forgot to say that I’m an adult and will only dm adults. Nothing against minors, but it’s a moral norm
About SimpleX security:
-
There was a recent audit of the app. So it is likely safe to send private data
-
It’s not strongly anonymous. It’s hard to track your IP but not impossible. This is NOT tor or i2p
-
Sure, I’m down to be friends, send me the link.
do you not love lenin and stalin
If you want a nice private messenging app briar (doesnt work for iOS) is good. Its peer to peer, encrypted, routes messages via TOR, works over bluetooth too or local network. Another option ive been doing if you want to just keep your data away from the US is use Chinese apps. Amap for navigation, Wechat for chat, etc.
Briar is good but it requires to have tor or proximity. Chinese apps are great, but they require you to be Chinese to store your data in the People’s Republic
