    Good luck getting 40 hours.

People call America “the great experiment”, and then celebrate being fitted for the exact same cage?

Dispite my generalized observation, my solidarity lies with Brazilians.

The American special: Pay a salary that’s not based on hours worked, then quantify work product by projects completed on time but not the amount of time needed to reach completion. Rinse and repeat. This is how you end up working 50 hours/week + weekends without extra pay above your normal salary.

It’s a political win, but I don’t know if it’s an electoral win. Looking at Bolsonaro’s base there are lots of people that Lula lifted out of poverty that now want to kick the ladder down.

      1. like all democracies, Brazil has separation of powers.
      2. Legislative power rests in the Congress
      3. Lula is not the Congress
      4. Now the part that might get confusing for USians. As an actual pluralistic democracy there are several parties in the Brazilian congress.
      5. Lula’s party doesn’t have a majority in congress and as such needs to convince other parties to vote for its proposals to get them approved.
