More than 300 scientists from across the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa and Oceania are calling for greater AI safety measures in an open letter.
The letter gave three recommendations:
- Adopting high-assurance containment systems, and initially defaulting to air-gapping, which means disconnecting from the internet, for cyber-capable AI models.
- Creating an international body to record and track AI containment failures.
- Reporting security incidents to the body and making them public.
The federal government is finalising its national AI standards and plans to legislate new rules in 2027.
