  • I think what brother’s me most here is the entitlement and contempt displayed for your own community. You were told repeatedly that nobody wanted this, and yet you doubled down saying “We know what’s best”. You acted like the community belongs to the moderation team, and they can do with it as they please.

It took a mass exodus for you to finally seriously consider other viewpoints. I don’t think that’s an acceptable way for any moderation team to treat their own community.

That’s not something that can simply be fixed by an apology. It’s something that would require some significant introspection.

  • I mean, they’re very different games… If you’re looking for something like overwatch, then seems like it could be a good match.

And yeah, the League new player experience is god awful. Even by people who still play it, it’s known for its toxicity. Riot let it degenerate into a cesspit because moderation was too difficult/costly, which caused all the friendly players to abandon ship. That means that the only people who still play are either clueless, toxic, addicted, seeking to profit, or somehow immune to vitriol.

Sadly, if you want a casual moba, I’m not sure it exists right now. Maybe ones that were never obscenely popular and still have passionate communities could be more friendly, at least? Smite, HoN, Eternal Return?

If you just want a casual game, then yeah, best to get in with a game that has a lot of other casual players, and Rivals fits that bill right now.

  • It’s actually not quite as crazy as it sounds. OK, it is as crazy as it sounds, but hear me out. Some inventor (Wolf Hilbertz) tried to build an island in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea through electrical mineral deposition on metal frames. He based the technique off of how coral plateaus accrete. There’s a fascinating video essay on its attempted construction and failure on YouTube.

The plan was pretty half baked and perhaps a bit of a venture capital cash grab attempt, and it turns out that nations also don’t much like the idea of independent micronations popping up near their adjacent sea areas. The video is still very worth a watch if it sounds interesting!

Edit: YT link is fixed. Thanks!
