Who reads this anyway? Nobody, that’s who. I could write just about anything here, and it wouldn’t make a difference. As a matter of fact, I’m kinda curious to find out how much text can you dump in here. If you’re like really verbose, you could go on and on about any pointless…[no more than this]

  • Totally agree. It’s all about the numbers, and that also makes the modern internet such a hostile place. You can think of any marginal group you would rarely encounter, or worry about IRL, but in the Internet, that tiny percentage translates to thousands or even millions of people.

It’s not just assholes and idiots either. This applies to thieves, blackmailers, creeps, and all the other kinds of people you would not want to sit next to in a crowded bus. There are easily several thousand of each type.

  • They work reasonably well, you can update them whenever you want and they are optional. Your Firefox installation won’t suddenly turn into a Flatpak overnight.

This kind of heavy handed management of change is unacceptable. Ubuntu deserves all the bad publicity they’re getting from this.

Then again, change is always hard, so there’s no easy way around this problem. Once canonical has implemented all the major changes they have in mind, Ubuntu could be worth testing again. In the meantime, it’s hard to recommend it to anyone.

Fedora is clearly a safer choice even though it too changes frequently. I used to update my system through the GUI, but over the years, that method became unreliable, and eventually broke completely. I ended up updating through the CLI instead, which isn’t something I can remember to everyone.

  • Where do you draw the line then? In many cultures it’s been 18 for a long time, but that’s not entirely unanimous or consistent throughout history.

In other countries 18 may sound too high or too low. Like in the case of Iran, it’s culturally acceptable to marry much younger than that, and Europe used to be like that as well.

Given that there’s variation in this matter, it’s not immediately obvious how to define pedophilic activity. Depending on where you liven and which century it is, the definition may change considerably. If we apply current western definitions, you’re absolutely correct though.

If someone is into 5 year old children and wishes to have harmful relationships with them, it’s pretty clear that there needs be some laws against it. What about 15 or 17 then? Actually, there are also people much older than 20 and they’re still not ready to bear the responsibilities of parenting, so should the limit be even higher? I wish this was simpler.
