Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Do you still use fluorescent lightbulbs in 2026? Or any other bulbs that aren't LED?English
15·1 day agoYour comment reminded me of this exchange from 30 Rock:
“Good for you, sir! Did you know that fluorescent light bulbs last ten times longer than regular ones?”
“Yup. And they only use one quarter of the power. But if we’re gonna solve the climate crisis, we’ve got to change more than the light bulbs and the windows. We’ve got to change the laws and the policies through collective political action on a large scale.”
“The government of China does not believe in keeping secrets from its citizens.”
Carcinization of architecture. All structures evolve to box.

1·4 days agoAre you setting the controls for your deck, while in desktop mode?
This thread is about the Steam Frame. Setting that on the Steam Deck certainly works as expected for me, but it doesn’t on the Steam Frame.

1·4 days agoOtherwise you’re stuck with the default pointier mappings, which only uses one controller while the desktop one can use both.
That reminds me of another random issue I had: I can’t point using one controller and use the stick for the other controller to scroll. On the Steam Deck, it feels very natural to point with the right touchpad and scroll with the left touchpad, so I figured it would feel natural on the Steam Frame to point by aiming the right controller while moving the left stick to scroll. But any time you move a stick, that controller becomes your pointing controller.

2·4 days agoIt was certainly both. In the short term, to solve their immediate problem and clear the room of Replicators, they recognized that the humans’ primitive weapons were simply the best tools for the job. In the long term, to solve the ultimate problem and rid the entire galaxy of Replicators for good, the Asgards recognized that the humans’ dumb way of thinking would come up with a sufficient plan that they wouldn’t think to come up with.

16·5 days agoIn Stargate, the ballistic weaponry was the most effective measure against the Replicators (until they eventually developed the special anti-replicator weapon). Asgard technology was decades ahead of our own, but they had to admit that shotguns were actually better at defending from Replicators than any weapon they had.

41·5 days agoIf it was free, I could imagine downloading it once to try it out. But I doubt I would ever run it again after trying it once. It doesn’t seem like a more interesting or efficient means of selecting content to watch or anything like that. I would also be wary about giving a closed-source program access to my media library.
But if it costed any fee, even just a one-time purchase of 1€, I wouldn’t be interested at all.

If you use Windows, you can install that software to browse your registry. If you have already set up Flatpak via WSL or whatever, I can imagine that being a decent option.

Steam Hardware@sopuli.xyz•[Frame] Is there a way to configure the input on desktop apps?English
3·6 days agoIf you go into the advanced options in the controller settings, there’s an option that let’s you configure the desktop controller mappings. This only affects the actual desktop though, not desktop apps you launch from the plus menu.
Does that actually even work? I remember trying to remap right click to some other button, but changing those settings wouldn’t actually affect the desktop controller mappings at all. No matter what I set any button to, the controller buttons would just keep performing their default actions.
