He’s the premier of Ontario, our most populated province. Basically our version of a governor by USA standards. He also has more in common with Trump than not. There are a few political factors here that will make it very hard for him to win an election when the next one was scheduled, so he’s pulled a snap election early as a desperate attempt to stay in power. Expect to see more of his dumb ass until we vote at the end of the month, longer if this tariff bullshit continues.

I hope he does. We handle lawsuits differently in Canada and he doesn’t own our judges or supreme court. I look forward to reading the judges decision lambasting him and his lawyers.

He’s only in power because ignorant and biased media like the article above convinced suburbanites to vote for him. His support in the cities and rural Canada is dismal but he keeps winning by offering things he can’t actually provide like one dollar beers and cheap gas.

This headline is very misleading. Ford already has a majority government allowing him to do whatever he wants and plenty of time left in his term. This election is about getting ahead of the federal election. Traditionally Ontario likes to vote in premieres that belong to the party opposite of whomever is running the country federally. Right now the federal conservatives lead the polls and a we know a federal election is coming before the end of the year. Doug Ford knows he needs to have an election ahead of that or his chances of remaining in power are slim. Tariffs are just a convenient boogeyman he’s using to try and stay in power longer. He even made sure to send everyone a 200 bucks and timed it so people got it shortly before he announced this election.

Before he started this “Canada is not for sale” bullshit, his slogan for our province was “Ontario, open for business”. Please don’t fall for it. Ford’s demolition of our health care has directly harmed several people close to me and his anti-worker bill 124 took thousands out of my pocket despite it being declared unconstitutional.

The NDP has been stuck much longer than that through little to no fault of their own. The media spun Rae days into such a monster that very few of my elders will even consider voting NDP and they vote in much higher numbers. While I agree a new leader is a good idea, they would have to succeed at either erasing Bob Rae’s memory or drastically increasing voter turnout to do any better than they are now. I say this as someone who has voted strictly NDP for the past 20 years and volunteered for them in the last two elections.

The saddest part is I have yet to encounter a Canadian who complains about Bob Rae that was actually affected by Rae Days. When you read into it, Rae Days were a fair attempt at keeping people employed during tough times. I am completely convinced that any other party would’ve done a much worse job with that situation.

For any Canadians on the fence with their vote, please consider the NDP. We all spend the majority of our lives working and the NDP is the only party primarily focused on improving our work lives. The rest of their policies are pretty decent and they’re open to a good suggestion if you have ideas. While red and blue continue to simp for oligarchs, our orange friends simp for unions. Also look into how much of Trudeaus policy was improved by the NDP forcing changes to bills before they would vote for them. I am convinced they are currently our only option for real progress in this country and I hope you can be convinced too.
