  • Make Australia Day the first Monday of February, like Cup Day is the first Tuesday of November.

I just don’t understand why we don’t change it. Not everyone is offended or hurt by the 26/01, but isn’t enough that some are offended and hurt?

The first Monday of February would ensure we still get a public holiday in summer and it isn’t on a day that deeply hurts a portion of our citizens. It doesn’t have to be on a specific date when something specific happened in the history of this nation. We aren’t deeply patriotic.

I personally am of the belief that some citizens of this country like it on the 26/01 precisely because it hurts some of our citizens. Which is disgusting and unaustralian to the highest degree.

  • Dear DT and Baku,

I want to apologise for the abusive language I directed at Baku. I was inappropriate, and I regret the hurt I caused. I am sorry for contributing to your decision to delete your account, Baku.

To the DT, I apologise for disrupting the thread and creating unnecessary drama. I failed to maintain the respectful and civil atmosphere of this community, and I understand how my actions may have disappointed the group.

I have learned from this mistake and will be more mindful in the future.

  • As a jobseeker (I am studying but do not qualify for austudy), this is foul. How come IT issues with mutual obligations don’t immediately ping against the payment and prevent cancellations?

They treat us like scum, with no regard to our individual financial situations. We’re labelled as “dole bludgers” and written off by the vast majority as saps on society. Then this happens and we can’t pay rent, pay our bills, pay our school fees (whether our own or our kids), buy food or pet food, pay for public transport or petrol or rego. Yet we aren’t given consideration or understanding from the public, just that we should “suck it up” and “just get a job”.

I feel great empathy for those affected by this, and am saddened by the lack of regard for our wellbeing. I look forward to what the reviews find and suggested outcomes reccomended by them. Though I am not so naive to believe this will change anyone’s perception of our place in society.
