  • They do relieve stress though, at a biochemical level. Also they cause harm and you shouldn’t smoke. The harm isn’t worth it and they cause physical dependency, including elevated stress when you don’t smoke that can only be alleviated by smoking, furthering the dependency. Don’t smoke.

But lying about the short term benefits is just like DARE equivocating marijuana and hard drugs: people wind up trying it out anyway, realize they were lied to, and disregard the actual beneficial warnings because the first one was obviously a lie.

  • It’s a regional story. If it was an African, or Asian, or Latin American, or American Indian story, would it be okay to make the characters European so long as the story is good?

If your answer is “Yes”, then okay at least you’re consistent, but a lot of people would disagree.

If your answer is “No, because white people are disproportionately represented in media”, that’s exactly why we should prefer making media based on other cultures and regions, rather than endlessly remaking the same European stories so Disney can protect their IP.

  • I mean, even all the way back in Grimm, she’s described with “skin as white as snow, lips as red as blood and hair as black as ebony”. Like I get what you’re saying, but having very, very white skin is literally(literally literally) a central detail of the character. Hence the name.

I feel like maybe the answer isn’t to keep remaking European fairy tales. Maybe the focus should be on, I dunno, folk tales from anywhere else? Or, God forbid, an original story?

  • Going online to gripe about DNC strategy to other online leftists accomplishes nothing but generating more apathetic non-voters. Organizing in effective ways can actually accomplish something: mass letters directly to the DNC, banding together into massive documented coalitions, mass petitions.

If the Uncommitted movement had tens of millions of registered voters come together and pledge to vote Harris if and only if she took a harder stance on Israel, that might have helped.

When you’re speaking up to the wrong audience, and thereby doing more harm than good, yes you should shut up. Toward that audience, or at least with that message. The Democratic party is a lot of unsavory things, but they aren’t totally stupid. They have a great number of analysts developing strategy based on the information they have. If you want them to change, they need actionable information that supports that change.

Complaining in already largely leftist anonymous online spaces is not actionable information.
