  • The other way of helping with that, is give Apple, Adobe and Windows a huge advantage, so people can’t easily move to free / open software.

It’s a lot more difficult to be controlled by a monopoly when the OS is free, and anyone can roll their own

At the moment, money is basically going straight to closed source US companies for all desktop computers. They control everything. Remember when Tim Cook gave Trump a gift publicly the other day? We KNOW Microsoft and Apple DEFINITELY aren’t on our side… They’re not even subtle about it anymore (weirdly though, it feels like Microsoft is more on our side these days than Apple)

Chinese manufactures are making cars that literally jump over potholes… And I think they’re in production.

Whereas, Elon demos something that will never go to production, is totally useless, and is basically a falling car…

Tesla are so far behind at this point. I bet even the cheap chinese cars don’t leak in their boot

  • Did you even read that 1 study you’re repeating, or just click the link

If you read the study, they ran the tests over 13 mins only. And, they didn’t keep retesting to see if results changed over time either. If that ran the test over an hour, both results may have ended up at similar levels (we don’t know because it only tested over a short time)

You need to learn to stop exaggerating or actually read crap instead of just the headline lol

I know it’s the same study we both (or presumably just myself) read, because it was the only one. I wouldn’t call that “extremely well” anything

What I said doesn’t indicate that at all. Not sure how many websocket servers you’ve written, but there is a reason that there are entire test suites to test them

Even worse, there are all kinds of combinations of half finished frames, masking, etc. The data size isn’t predictable and you can also have fragmented frames too.

We also need to connect to all kinds of clients which do things slightly different

And, I had limited time to write it in as well.

If you’re not getting any bugs, you’re either not doing anything new, or you’re designing really basic apps that offload the hard work to someone else.

Big shocker, but the performance fixing came down to bit handling of the header… and yes, that made a huge difference overall. The code wasn’t wrong…

We’re working with embedded systems limited by RAM and CPU that operates on a single thread for everything, with lots of clients .We don’t have the luxury of throwing in a better CPU or just pretending it’s an issue. Even simply enabling logging drastically changes the CPU usage

  • You understand it less it sounds like.

    1. Race Conditions are common. This isn’t new to AI. Nobody writes stories about them though unless they lead to security issues (like with XFS, which had one for 10 years and only fixed recently).
    2. There is a lot happening in the kernel, its not always a matter of looking in one tiny location. A race condition is pretty broad and can lead to many things.
    3. Patches get rejected all the time, for reasons including race conditions which are identified.
    4. If you check the post, other developers had tried and failed to fix the same issue. He’s not the only one. It was just yet another failed attempt
    5. Optimisation is HARD, and always has been.
    6. Finally, you say “suggested it for submission”. That code would go to a staging repo first for testing. He wasn’t suggesting pushing it immediately to the main tree…
    7. Standard development tools (at least for my development work) wouldn’t catch race conditions (maybe commercial ones / high end ones would)… AI is actually far better at detecting these things

This isn’t a unique or interesting story in any capacity… It’s boring and normal
