Yes, although admittedly I only know it from Umberto Eco’s Ur-Fascism
Worth clarifying that it requires individuals to insert backdoors if told to, it’s not a blanket backdoor and frankly I’d be shocked if it held up in the high court.
Nothing ever makes it there though, and it’s full of baked in secrecy. I don’t use local or US services for anything where privacy is important for that reason.
Good thing Australia doesn’t have electronic voting, hey?
The concept of a “social contract” is regularly used to deny rights to prisoners.
It’s not necessary, even to address the “paradox of tolerance”, it’s actively harmful, and it’s erroneous anyway (contracts are necessarily consensual[1], but exceptionally few people get to make a choice about the society they live in)
Yes, this criteria invalidates a lot of modern contracts in the US especially around tech, but this is largely a failure of the judicial system. Legislation still makes it clear that contracts must be consensual in the US and other western countries, and it often goes further in that they must be reciprocal. ↩︎
That would be illegal in Australia and I have to imagine most functional democracies since it has the potential to link voters to votes and undermine the electoral process.
Where are you that there are cameras in the booth?
Did you try sfc.exe /scannow?

My Windows (10) broke Bluetooth in an update over two years ago and the situation has not changed. Never had a problem with Linux on the same machine (dual boot).
If “it just works” was ever true on Windows, those days are behind us.
From what I’ve seen, stopping at those markers lines up the wheelchair ramp (at least on the electric trains) with the wheelchair mark on the platform. I don’t think they care too much unless there’s someone waiting on the mark specifically.
What is “it”? Webmentions? Webmentions can be sent from anywhere, not just places you’re actively monitoring. They can be used for example to create a comments section on your blog which amalgamates comments from various syndication points.
That is, you post to your blog, you post a link to your blog post to twitter/Facebook/lemmy etc, and comments or replies from any of those can show up on your blog itself if you so choose.
I love this so much and I don’t have any games that can use it.
IndieWeb in general and the h-entry and WebMentions specifically.
Collectively they promise a highly personalised web experience that maintains ownership of your own content while encouraging socialisation across platforms, while avoiding the sustainability and scale limitations of activitypub.
I also want to see XMPP/OMEMO have a comeback.
Koalas are quite capable of running across the ground.
This nonsense is why I’ve never set my XDG_HOME_DIRS to their actual values. A convenient button in file browsers isn’t worth the intrusion.
“If you’ve got a three-year cycle, in practice, that often means that you really only have a shorter window of perhaps a couple of years to bring about substantial reform, by which time you’re looking at the next election,” he said.
No, you have three years to bring about substantial reform. If you decide to prioritise campaigning over reform, that’s your decision and a longer term won’t change that.
There was a significant push for one year terms early on, I’d much rather see that than a reduction in our democratic voice.
The investigation did not spotlight the similarly-named Matrix open source communication protocol.
