The Sound Guys do a good job of breaking down LDAC, however the main point of criticism I have about the article is that they say that LDAC isn’t great because most smartphones don’t auto-choose the highest 990 bitrate. That doesn’t seem like an LDAC problem, that seems like a phone problem. My phone is admittedly a Sony, but it always chooses the highest bitrate first. There’s even a setting to force it to use 990.

The other criticism I have is that the sound guys kind of overlook the fact that, when your phone is in your pocket, it’s close enough to the headphones that you’ll almost always get the 990 bitrate. And the sound quality at 990 is fantastic. I cannot tell a difference between it and a wired connection for CD-quality FLACs. Even the 660 stepdown bitrate of the LDAC codec is really good.

It should be a huge liability, but the US is a fucked up place. Even “blue” states are full of people at work voraciously politicizing everything, always thinking they are right about everything. These people are everywhere, they lack humility and critical thinking, and they are insufferable.

But really, his intent with this executive order is to erase legal recognition of trans people. Many trans people will no longer be able to have their proper sex on their passports and other legal documentation. This opens the doors to massive discrimination – and violence – against trans people in all aspects of society.

Trans people will be left without proper identification, without equal access to employment or housing, further reduction in freedom of movement between the states, and further reduction in freedom to travel abroad without being outed. Trans people will face increased discrimination, harassment, and violence.

This is the intention of today’s EO.

What this means to me is that when these settings break a site, it’s difficult to tweak the settings to get those sites to work with individualized settings. Personally, this is much easier for me to do with browser extensions that provide a some of Phoenix’s hardening features.

I just looked into using Phoenix but after reading some valid criticisms of the project, along with the pain of setting it up and keeping it updated, it didn’t feel worth it for me.

And to be clear, Phoenix is not a browser, it is a Firefox config.

The video is okay, but without knowing the resolution or graphical concessions made, we don’t really have a good idea of how it looks.

I really want it to look and run great! Let’s wait and see.
