I randomized and deleted all my previous comments and posts with a paid app. Boy did the mods and automods HATE that. The gall they had to call it spam, when it literally just says this comment has been randomized and deleted. And it was 13 or 14 years of thoughtful contributions. Like Reddit owns my contributions. I’m autobanned from most of the major subs for redacting all my content.

Technology@lemmy.world•Tech stocks set to wipe out more than $1 trillion as concerns deepen about the AI boomEnglish
6·5 days agoI worked in the title insurance industry around 2005, data entry. So I saw thousands of mortgages being issued every week, and my job was to data enter mortgage details and data enter the research showing clear title of the property.
I was 19 years old and renting a studio apartment and even I was shocked that every. Single. Mortgage had an adjustable rate or balloon rider on it. Reading the terms of those I was thinking how the hell will any of these people make their mortage payments in 4 or 5 years?
When I would talk to people older than me with homes and investments they would get genuinely upset and tell me I couldn’t possibly understand, the banks know what they are doing. Ok.
There were many such dangers, in which the odds were all against them. Their children were not as well as they had been at home; but how could they know that there was no sewer to their house, and that the drainage of fifteen years was in a cesspool under it? How could they know that the pale-blue milk that they bought around the corner was watered, and doctored with formaldehyde besides? When the children were not well at home, Teta Elzbieta would gather herbs and cure them; now she was obliged to go to the drugstore and buy extracts–and how was she to know that they were all adulterated? How could they find out that their tea and coffee, their sugar and flour, had been doctored; that their canned peas had been colored with copper salts, and their fruit jams with aniline dyes? And even if they had known it, what good would it have done them, since there was no place within miles of them where any other sort was to be had?

You can buy new work pants you know. My boss who lives in a 7 figure home had ragged holes in his pants. Had to scold him.
