Probably because, out of all those entities doing the same shit, Valve is the only one who bothers to give even so much as a passing thought towards treating their customers right too. The rest of them just view us as walking wallets who are unfairly keeping their money away from them.

Valve absolutely fucks up too, but when you’re surrounded by psychos, it’s easy to see the guy who’s merely kind of a dick as the good guy.

EA tried that initially. They eventually went back to putting their games on Steam. Although their platform was dogshit compared to Steam, so that’s not surprising, except to them I guess. These execs keep thinking they can do the bare minimum and pull people away from Steam, and that’s not how it works. They need to provide a better value proposition to customers, and they flat out refuse to even try.

I mean, Steam isn’t even my preferred storefront, despite being where I buy most of my games. I actually prefer GoG when it’s an option.

There’s also the whole thing where Tim Sweeney is such a dick constantly running his mouth that I hate him so much I won’t even use his platform for free stuff. And there have been games I actually wanted that were offered. I still chose Steam and / or GoG over literally free because fuck that guy and the AI slop version of a horse he rode in on.

Right? People have been doing crazy shit to make non-ideal hardware work for them pretty much since computing was invented lol
