They’re going to try to frame it as a national defense issue; like automotive companies are. My guess is they’d bail out SpaceX/xAI in exchange for personal enrichment if needed.

Fuck AI@lemmy.world•I'm witnessing the death of my profession
101·4 days agoSame, I don’t find “vibe-coding” very useful. It just produces slop. With enough back and forth with an LLM I can usually get something that “works,” but works poorly. I don’t have the motivation to read the slop it produces, so I don’t know if it’s doing things correctly or not (when I do investigate, it often is not). I often feel like the time I spent prompting the LLM in English would’ve been better spent “prompting” the compiler or interpreter in a language designed for software development.

Late Stage Capitalism@lemmy.world•Mark Cuban says Gen Z should think more like Jeff Bezos and stop chasing the perfect job: ‘Just get a job’—even at McDonald’s or Dairy Queen
6·4 days agoThese people need to justify their immense privilege, so they attribute nearly everything they did to their success instead of mostly luck.
I think this is somewhat bad advice. Young people are better off focusing on their education and skill development (if they are currently pursuing an education). Working at McDonald’s and Dairy Queen will teach you nothing you can’t quickly “learn” later, and it can often hurt your education (e.g. if you work late).
I don’t think it’s uncommon for management prey on the more vulnerable young workers either. I worked multiple fast food jobs. At one, the manager was caught giving drugs to and statutory raping multiple underage employees (he was the owner’s son and in his 30s); and at another, a manager threatened to fire an underage employee unless he had sex with her (she was in her 40s). The only reason you should work any job is if you need the money and you haven’t been able to get a better one yet.

Enough Musk Spam@lemmy.world•Why would Elon block a bill banning AI-generated child porn?
0·3 months agoBut in the case of AI, it’s company a generated content.
Presumably, there are other ways to catch them than to allow total surveillance of society. I mean, I don’t think the post office should inspect every person’s mail without a warrant either; and I’m sure there’s plenty of CSAM transmitted through it.
Hyphanet (the predecessor to this new Freenet; possibly superior in some ways) uses an implementation of the “Web of Trust” idea for stuff like this. It doesn’t remove content, but hides it if you and the people you trust, don’t trust that pseudonym (you can assign trust levels in the 0-100 range IIRC). There are also freesite indexes that are curated (multiple levels; a “clean” one that only contains stuff that is unlikely to cause legal problems, an intermediate one that allows stuff like piracy, and a unmoderated one I think). I guess you can say that Hyphanet doesn’t bake moderation into the system itself, but offloads that to individuals and groups. I like this idea, because different people and groups think different things are acceptable and not.
sobchak@programming.devtoA community about FPV drones/wings/planes, freestyle, racing, etc.@lemmy.ml•What are the best antennas for analog and digital for the HDZero Box Pros?
0·9 months agoIf I understand correctly the pepperbox is very large; not really practical for mounting to goggles. Also, VAS is ran by a bigot. If you always want be cognizant of where you’re facing, and always want to face the direction of your drone a patch would be ok, and would give you a bit more range. Otherwise, if you want to just fly all around yourself, go for an omni.
Also keep in mind to match your polarization for your air unit. Looks like the Box Pros only have linear polarized antennas? You’d probably get a bit more range, penetration, reflection rejection if you changed the antenna in your air unit and goggles to RHCP or LHCP.
Analog sucks for quality, interference, etc; but it has a kind of “graceful” degradation where if you have a lot of static and interference you can still generally navigate around OK if you’re careful. 5.8ghz just sucks in general for penetration and range (theoretically better for quality if there wasn’t so much interference).

Technology@lemmy.world•AI insiders seek to poison the data that feeds themEnglish
0·10 months agoI once saw an old lecture where the guy working on Yahoo spam filters noticed that spammers would create accounts to mark their own spam messages as not spam (in an attempt to trick the spam filters; I guess a kind of a Sybil attack), and because the way the SPAM filtering models were created and used, it made the SPAM filtering more effective. It’s possible that wider variety of “poisoned” data can actually help improve models.

AI is already having negative impacts on working families. It’s sucking up a huge portion of the money in the economy, and the money is being spent on things that produce very few jobs (data centers). The stated goal of these companies is to reduce jobs, increase surveillance, and to make the war machine more deadly. Some state there’s a good chance what they’re actively working toward will destroy humanity. Some believe one company will create an ASI, starting the technological singularity, which will concentrate immense power into that single company that beats everyone else to it. Arguably, an AI crash is preferable to an AI “success.”
