tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto ADHD@lemmy.world•The ADHD genie ain't ever going back in the lamp...English0·3 days agoI’m on team dentist here as well. Those things don’t geow back unless you’re 3. Get an electric toothbrush. They’re not that expensive, and don’t make brushing take any more time than otherwise.
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto Lemmy Shitpost@lemmy.world•Corporations are saving the planet!0·3 days agoI think the kind of plastic used in bottles is one of very few that actually are profitable to recycle. PET, I think. This is actually something recycling companies want. Most other plastic is just burned or shipped somewhere.
It’s capitalism in the same way the Soviet Union was communism. No matter the theory, this is how these systems play out when real humans are in charge. That said, humans can clearly do better than the US system. Western Europe is full of counterexamples of semi-capitalism done better.
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Cyberpunk 2 director says "mature games" used to mainly be about killing and sex, but The Witcher 3 was part of a "broader process" to change that as devs grew olderEnglish0·4 days agoYes, but if you have a bit of critical thinking ability you realize there’s a bit more underneath.
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto PC Gaming@lemmy.ca•Xbox Braces For Fourth Major Layoff Round In 18 Months As Microsoft Pivots To AI - [looks like they need to recover profits for shareholder after the spending in Activision Blizzard acquisition]English0·6 days agoXbox seems like it may be toast. It’s being rolled into Windows somehow, it seems. The odds are decent that it’s a face-saving exercise and the whole thing is being shut down slowly. Or Microsoft pulls something incredible out of the bag. The Xbox management has to be desperate at this point. We’ll see whether whatever Winbox thing comes out of it sticks to the wall or not.
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•The BBC is launching a paywall in the USEnglish0·6 days agoExactly this. Isn’t the point of the BBC world service to communicate/propagandise the British view of what’s happening in the world to other countries? Imagine Russia Today adding a paywall? It’s counter to the entire point! I think you may be on to something about this being a concession to Trump.
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Trying Out Pop OS on my laptopEnglish0·6 days agoIsn’t it possible to use flatpak? Then Steam would come with all its required 32 bit libraries in the flatpak.
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto Linux Gaming@lemmy.world•Trying Out Pop OS on my laptopEnglish0·6 days agoSecond this. It was really rough for a while, but now it’s mostly (mostly!) smooth. Still waiting for a mesa version with the Doom fixes, though, so don’t expect frequent driver updates. I think maybe the stable Pop release is better with this?
tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Lollipop man told to stop high-fiving kids as it slows down trafficEnglish0·13 days agoDid a driver just say it’s political correctness that this guy can’t high five? What does the driver think PC means?? You just know that’s an annoying as hell person

tormeh@discuss.tchncs.deto Technology@lemmy.world•Salt Lake City, plans to implement AI-assisted 911 call triaging to handle ~30% of about 450K non-emergency calls per yearEnglish0·18 days agoIt’s not an emergency if it can wait 15 minutes. So the line just doesn’t work for its intended purpose. That’s extraordinary failure.
Conservatism does sort of exist, but it’s all about conserving the social, economic, and power structures of the present. Honestly most so-called conservatives are actually reactionaries - they want to bring back the social, economic, and power structures of the recent past, i.e. reverse the past couple of decades of development. Mostly, of course, because they believe they were better off back then.

tormeh@discuss.tchncs.detoPolitical Memes@lemmy.world•Capitalism in theory vs capitalism in practice0·19 days agoThat’s not unique to capitalism. That’s just what living in a society made up of humans is like. Incompetence and malice (whichever applies) will exist for as long as there are people.
Are women more emotional than men? Maybe. Maybe not. But I’ve never heard anyone accuse Hillary Clinton of being too emotional.

Once everything has been optimized and runs smoothly, there are no surprises anymore, nothing interesting, you just do a routine that you’ve specialized in and have gotten bored at 10 years ago. Our quality of life is unparalleled. Our quality of work less so. It’s safe and all, but so so boring
